How It All Began

New Moms began in 1983 when our founder, Ellen Kogstad, saw a need in her community in Chicago. She saw young women who were pregnant or parenting living in abandoned buildings and cars and felt the moral conviction that wasn’t okay. So, she started off by doing just a simple act of giving out diapers and formula out of the trunk of her car. That seed she planted then today has become New Moms.

This year, we’re celebrating 35 years of strengthening families in many ways! Check back to this page often for the latest information!
