Roshaynae (Shay) Hammond joined New Moms in October 2021, as the Director of Housing. She came to us with a passion for helping young moms facing marginalization and was seeking an organization that shared her own personal principles. In her role of Director of Housing, Shay provides leadership on all aspects of service delivery for families in our Housing Program. In conjunction with serving as an active member of the leadership team, she facilitates staff meetings and provides professional development opportunities to her team members.
Her career extends over 20 years of providing direct-service experience management, including at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the Mayor’s Office of People with Disabilities, a housing voucher program through Chicago Housing Authority (CHA), and a personal assistant program through the Department of Human Services. Shay is also an 2019 cohort alumni of the Chicago Foundation for Women Willie’s Warriors leadership initiative that creates a pipeline and network of black women leaders. Shay received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and her Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership Non-Profit Management from Lewis University-Romeoville.
