Transitional Housing

New Moms’ Transformation Center (TC), within our Chicago location, provides 2-year transitional housing for young mothers ages 18-24 and their children who are experiencing homelessness. The Transformation Center boasts 40 apartment units that can house up to 40 moms and 50 children at a time—which makes New Moms the largest provider of housing for this special population in Chicago.

The Transformation Center from W. Chicago Ave.

New Moms follows a “housing first” approach, understanding the first step to creating a more stable life is to have a safe environment to call home. Our Housing program specializes in serving two generations, which is a best practice and promotes long-term stability. During the two-year transitional program, each family has a private apartment and a family support specialist who offers coaching on the path to finding safe and stable long-term housing, and supports the formation and accomplishment of goals.

The TC is a “one-stop shop” for our families, in which they can access critical support services including coaching around goal formation, parenting, and life skill development; job training opportunities and permanent job placement assistance, and linkages to other community resources for additional support and services.

Living at the Transformation Center is an opportunity for young moms to build the skills they need to create and lead strong, thriving families.
