As a women’s health professional, I witness firsthand the critical role that social determinants of health play in the physical and mental health of my patients. New Moms plays an invaluable role in improving health outcomes by providing resources, fostering esteem and a sense of community, and educating young moms and families. My curiosity for New Moms was piqued after passing the center during a morning commute. After learning more about the mission and being invited to participate in the prenatal education and classes, I was determined to be more involved.
After moving to the Chicago area with my family, including our 4-month-old son and 5-year-old daughter, I knew I wanted to be involved in an organization in Chicago that helps new mothers lacking the support and opportunities I am so lucky to have; New Moms was the perfect organization for me to help. Then, as I volunteered in the New Moms job training program and saw the women’s potential unleashed, I was inspired to become even more involved. New Moms provides its moms with all the resources and training they need to sustain their families for the long term. I am so excited to be joining the Board this year to further the New Moms mission.
