Policy at New Moms

Young families need more effective public systems and laws in their pursuit of economic mobility, stable housing, and well-being. At New Moms, we are addressing this by working to influence elected officials and decision-makers towards improved systems and services that benefit young moms.

Our Approach

At the heart of our advocacy work are the young families we serve. We focus on how policies impact the well-being and success of young moms and their children.

Drawing on over 40 years of experience, New Moms pushes for meaningful change by leading initiatives, partnering with others, and amplifying the voices of young families.

Our goal is simple: to create a future where every mother and child has the opportunity to thrive.

Protect the Health and Wellbeing of Young Moms & Kids

Conress has until May 9, 2025 to draft their legislation aimed at significantly reducing federal spending. The House Energy and Commerce Committee is looking for ways to cut $880 billion in funding. There are very few places available to reduce spending in the federal budget. Medicaid is one of those places, and it is anticipated that it will bear the majority of cuts.

Medicaid keeps young moms and kids healthy. It is their source of health insurance, enabling access to prenatal, well-child, postpartum visits, and mental healthcare. It undergirds our hospitals and clinics. It is a fundamental pillar of American healthcare.
We need to contact our Senators and Representatives ASAP to urge them to avoid significant Medicaid cuts. This is not yet set in stone! Many lawmakers have expressed hesitation around Medicaid cuts, given the importance of the funding to public health and their constituents. Let’s keep the pressure on and make sure our elected officials are hearing from us loud and clear! Click here to use your voice.
Co-Sponsor Human Services Resolutions HR151 & SR 123

New Moms believes in the strength, dignity, and potential of all families to achieve their goals. Partnering with young moms to invest in generational change takes tremendous talent, and young moms deserve the best partners we can hire.  Our team deserves wages that reflect their talent and professionalism.  New Moms is committed to being a great employer.  Creating a workplace where employees can do their best work on behalf of community members requires adequate funding from all of our partners.

State human services contracts have long ignored increases in the cost of doing business faced by community-based providers like New Moms. This is exacerbated by the fact that contracts rarely cover the full cost of business to begin with. Our direct service team members have borne the brunt of these structural deficits for too long. The Living Wages Thriving Communities campaign seeks to remediate this harm so our communities have the resources and support necessary to flourish.
Contact your state representative and state senator and ask them to co-sponsor HR151 and SR123.
