Like any parent, young moms want to work and provide for their family. Stable, living-wage employment is an essential catalyst for economic mobility from poverty. Our comprehensive, fully paid, 12-week Job Training program lends classroom and on-the-job training at our social enterprise candle company, Bright Endeavors, to create positive environments of learning and employment practice for young moms 16-24 years old.
Young moms in Job Training are paired with a Supportive Employment Coach for the duration of the training and up to 2 years post-program. In small cohorts of peers, young moms progress through various elements of programming, including classroom-based strengths assessment and career and educational pathway planning, job workshops for résumé writing and practice interviewing, parenting group, hands-on job practice at Bright Endeavors, and, ultimately, job placement.
Young moms and their coaches set and track personal and Bright Endeavors’ production goals daily and celebrate goal achievement individually and together as a team. By the end of their engagement in Job Training, young moms feel more confident in their skills, their educational and employment opportunities, and the steps to take to achieve their goals.
