A Range of Support

About

Our Family Support programs offer a holistic set of services to support mothers on their parenting journey in Chicago and the Western Suburbs. Our services include:

  • Doula: Birth Doulas (professional labor assistants) provide physical and emotional support to birthing people and their partners during pregnancy, childbirth, and the early postpartum period.
  • Prenatal Support Group: Prenatal Support Groups connect families with peers and help them learn about and prepare for the birth of their baby and motherhood.
  • Home Visiting: Moms are paired with a coach who visits them at home to share parenting resources / tools, child development tips, and social connection and encouragement.
  • Parent Support Groups & Education: Parent Support Groups connect moms with peers and include facilitated discussion on childhood development, parenting, health and wellness, and parent/child bonding and development activities.
Driving Equity and Success

Being a mom shouldn’t require abandoning academic dreams.

One in five college students in the United States are parents, and often schools cannot fully provide the kind of support young parents need to ensure success. Currently, only 8% of single-mother students in Illinois complete an Associate degree within six years, compared to 60% of students without children, according to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. Additionally, one in three black women in college — who are already underrepresented in higher education because of systemic racism and historic barriers — are single parents. New Moms’ College Success program was created to address this disparity. Through monthly stipends, childcare support, and individual and group coaching, New Moms provides a resource for young moms looking to graduate from postsecondary education and find work in family-sustaining, living-wage jobs.
